kindergarten news image.jpg

December will be a busy month here in kindergarten.  As we continue learning our kindergarten concepts, we are also having some fun preparing for the holidays.  I love this time of year, but I know how hectic it can become.  Please try to stay consistent with bed times while we are still in school.

Each week, we have rehearsal for our upcoming Starstruck performance.  Our class will perform on Wednesday, December 13th  with Mrs. Wickwire's class in the two evening performances.  We will also have a day performance for the school.  Please make sure your child wears blue jeans and a white t-shirt to school for all 3 of these performances.  Just a heads up, I will have a substitute on Wednesday, December 13th due to a Math team meeting that I must attend.  However, Mrs. Grant will be here that day.  However, I will be at school for the evening performances.

On Tuesday, December 19th, our class will have our Holiday Party from 12:00-1:26.  I will need donations of Ice cream cones, frosting, and candy decorations.  We will be making edible Christmas trees, as well as doing many other fun holiday activities.  If you are available to volunteer during our party, please let me know as soon as possible.  I will need 4 parents to help run the activities.

On Wednesday, December 20th, all of Kindergarten will be enjoying a morning of watching the Polar Express in the multi--purpose room. Students may bring a blanket and a small pillow and wear their favorite pajamas.

I hope everyone has a Merry, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.  I absolutely love teaching your children and they are an amazing class!

Character Trait

This month, we will be focusing on caring and being kind.  We will talk about how kindergartners can be caring to one another.  We will discuss how children can help one another and show random acts of kindness.

Sunset Ridge Mandarins

In December, one of my favorite family activities is to go up the hill a little ways to pick mandarins. Sunset Ridge Mandarins is family owned and family friendly.  Your family will be given a bucket and shears and you can pick as many or as few as your would like.  You can pack a picnic or enjoy the bbq that is available for purchase on certain weekends. The views from their orchard are stunning.  If you would like more information about this beautiful farm, please visit www.gotmandarins.com.  The address is 7825 Fox Hill Lane, Newcastle.  If you and your kids like fresh mandarins, this is a wonderful place to visit.

Our December Homework packet will come home in your child's Friday Folder on Friday, December 1st.  This is a fairly large packet, since it is homework for a month.  Please follow the directions on each page, and don't leave it until the last minute to complete.  Our December homework packet will be due back to school on Wednesday, December 20th..

Remember that this homework is for your child to complete, but they may need your help with the directions.  Pencils and crayons only (no markers please).

parent volunteers.jpg

Thank you to all the parents who have signed up to help.  We are still in need of a Music Docent (no experience necessary).

If it is your volunteer day in our classroom, please make sure you sign in at the school office first. Make sure you bring your photo ID for checking in.   When you arrive in the classroom, we keep a parent prep box in the back of the room filled with work that needs to be prepped.  Some items may need to be copied in the workroom, die cut, sorted, stapled, books made, etc. There will always be a sticky note and usually a sample of what needs to be done.  If you are helping with centers, please make sure you arrive on time so that you can hear my explanation of the center that you will be working at.  If you arrive early, please check out the parent prep box to see if there is something you can do until centers begin.

Center Time Parents:  If you are helping with a center, please make sure your cell phone is turned off so that all of your attention is on the students in your group.  We always want students practicing skills correctly, so if you see a child making reversals, please have them fix their mistakes. Center time is a quiet working/teaching time, so please use an inside voice with the students in your group.

Thank you again for volunteering your time.  Kindergarten is a wonderful place to be, and you and your child will always remember the time you spent in our classroom.
